4 Things You Can Do to Make Your Home friendly for Kids

When you have kids in the house, you can’t help but worry about what they are up to and how safe they are, especially when you are not watching over them. Kids are more concerned with pleasure than safety, thus you must ensure that your home is safe. If anything, it is you who will take care of damages and injuries when they mess up.

One of the items you can consider is the sofas. Kids enjoy playing on couches while in the living room and they are terrible at maintaining them clean. They get them dirty with their feet, shoes, dirty clothes, drinks, and food items. It doesn’t matter how many times you tell them it is wrong, they’ll do it anyway. To minimize your pressure and keep them comfortable at the same time, purchase leather sofas of high quality that are sturdy and easy to clean. If you have to choose slip covered sofas, then look for stain resistant fabric that will be easy to clean as well.

The other thing to also consider is your coffee table and cupboards. It is not advisable to buy sharp edged furniture for your home when you have kids who are learning to walk. Sharp edged furniture is hazardous, very painful when a person runs themselves against its corners, and it can cause serious injuries. Instead, purchase round and oval shaped tables and have them cushioned if you can to make them dull, and cupboards with blunted edges. This way, if your kids get very rough, the risk for injuries will be less. Keep off cupboards because they can easily fall on your kids, but if you have to buy them, make sure they are very heavy and installed in rooms where kids do not frequent.

The kind of flooring you choose when you have kids around is also critical. The best kind of floor to invest in is the type that is slip resistant, easy to clean, and warm. Hardwood floors are easy to clean, but very slippery especially when one has socks on. Concrete floors are also easy to clean, but can get very cold and freeze your little ones’ feet. Carpet tiles are a better flooring option when you have kids around because they are easy to clean, slip resistant, and warm.

Your walls are also another source of stress with young kids around, especially those at the crayons stage. To maintain your sanity, coat your walls with a type of paint that is easy to clean in the rooms where they visit the most or install chalkboards on the walls to make everybody happy. Again, it doesn’t matter how many times you tell your kids not to do stuff, they will always find a way to annoy you. Be smart!
